Library Support for Faculty During COVID-19 Crisis

Library Services for Faculty

While the library remains closed, we continue to support students primarily online but also with very limited on-site services.

Due to social distancing and other precautions, the library is not open for study or research. Users are allowed to come to the library by appointment only to return or borrow books. To make an appointment please contact the Circulation Desk by phone at (0030) 210 600 9800 ext. 1348 or by email at [email protected].

For more details please see below.

Loans, returns, renewals

Books you have on loan

If you wish to return books you borrowed during the lockdown, please make an appointment in advance to get permission to come to the library to drop them off.

If you cannot return books you borrowed during the lockdown because you are out of town or unable to come to campus, please let us know and we will renew them for you.

To borrow a book

If you need to borrow a book, contact us by phone or email, to provide the book details and we will collect the books from the shelves and prepare them for you to pick up.

You can also place a hold through Discovery by clicking the ‘Request this item’ button in the ‘Check Availability’ panel. You will be notified by phone or email when the item is ready for you to pick up.

To renew a book

You can renew items you have already checked out through 'My Account'   or by contacting the Circulation Desk.

Remote access to resources

Discovery  and Library resources are accessible from off campus 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Read more

Please make sure you are using the Proxied URLs for linking directly to library resources remotely or via Blackboard. Read more .

In regard to online resources that are not accessible remotely, the Library staff will conduct searches on your behalf upon request. The results will be forwarded to you via email.

Below you may find a list of the resources that do not allow off-campus access.

  • Clarksons Shipping Intelligence Network
  • Datastream (Thomson Reuters)
  • Data.Prisma
  • Literary Encyclopedia
  • New York Times

To conduct a search on your behalf, contact the Reference Desk at (0030) 210 600 9800 ext. 1434 and 1267, or email us at [email protected].

Document delivery services

The library will continue to offer document delivery services as usual. However, please note that your request may take longer than usual to deliver as many libraries around the world are either closed or work with limited staff.

In regard to requested books, the library will try to purchase them in electronic format. If a book is not available as ebook, you will be notified when it is ready for you to pick it up but please make arrangements with the library staff before you visit the library.

Scanning of book chapters and excerpts.

For faculty members who cannot access the library during the opening hours, the library staff will scan and forward to them material from print books and journals upon request. Please note that due to copyright restrictions, the scanned material cannot be more than two (2) chapters nor exceed the 10% of the total number of the book pages.

If you have such a request, please email us at [email protected] with the details of the resource including the section and/or the pages of the excerpt so we can proceed with the scanning.

To request scanned chapters from print books to be uploaded on Blackboard, please email us with the details of the source.

Consultations & personalized assistance

Remote consultations and personalized assistance are available via phone or Skype (upon request).
If you have such a request, please contact the Reference Desk via phone at (0030) 210 600 9800 ext. 1434 and 1267 or via email at [email protected].
